What is sanctuary? Is it a place? A person? What does being in sanctuary feel like? These are the questions our students will reflect on in All School and Divisional Chapels this year. As we celebrated our October All School Chapel on October 3, we thought we would begin this theme by learning more about our Breck sanctuary. Below are the words from my homily that, I hope, will give insight and inspiration for our Breck community throughout this year.
A newly implemented tradition in the Breck Upper School is College T-Shirt Day. Normally held around May 1st, the day college decisions are due nationally, members of the graduating class will wear a shirt from the college or university they’ve decided to attend. Recently, teachers in the Upper School have caught on to the trend as well, wearing the shirt of their alma mater with pride, often taking pictures with students who’ve chosen to attend that school as well.
In the spring of 2016, Lower School instructor Jenny Bennett was awarded the prestigious Jean Wigley Award, an award given annually to faculty members to pursue professional development experiences. The award was established in 2001-2002 by Breck parents Michael and Barbara Wigley in memory of Mr. Wigley’s mother, Jean. Jean Wigley was known for her faith in God, her giving spirit and her strong belief in the goodness of people. She was a warm and caring woman who made the...
